For the Love of Herons

I love – absolutely love – bird photography. I enjoy capturing all kinds of species, but I especially love the big birds. Recently a couple herons have taken up residence in the pond located in my apartment complex. One is older but there is also a baby that spooks a little quicker and he flits away quickly upon approach. They come flying in on their long wings, keeping close to the water’s edge when they land. A few days ago I saw the older one with a HUGE bullfrog in its beak, but I didn’t have my camera with me at that time. Boy would that have been a photo!

As I was walking my dog yesterday, I spotted this one wading near the water’s edge. After getting Taco back inside, I grabbed my camera and long lens and set out to get a shot. When he saw me he got a bit spooked and started walking slowly away, but I was able to get a couple good angles. Hoping I can catch the baby soon!
